Proper nowadays artists - day 33: David Leffel
When I’m doing workshops and trying to talk about painting, David Leffel is by far the name I mention the most. Maybe the greatest pure painter alive today. His approach to painting is almost entirely philosophical based on what painting actually is itself. Listening to him talk about painting and watching him do it are almost more pleasing than looking at his actual work. His message is a very simple idea but goes extremely deep. There’s no beginner or advanced for Leffel - you’re either painting or you’re not. And you’re not painting things - you’re painting an idea you have about things.
He does a free weekly talk about painting on his facebook page which everyone should watch. He has multiple books and videos too. His clip on brushstrokes, posted below, is something I always recommend to people at my workshops watch.
