Sergey Chubirko (1969, Ukraine)

Trained at the Ilya Repin Academy in Saint-Petersburg he has a school in Florence called Chiaro-Scuro. There’s no mistaking the understanding of form those Repin academy guys have. I like this quote of his about drawing from an interview he did with James Gurney:

Such knowledge should not be ignored as, for instance, knowledge of the alphabet cannot be ignored when one wants to learn to read and write.

And of course he’s 100% correct. It’s a matter of fluency in a visual language or, in the case of the times we live in now, even knowing the A,B,C’s.
