Proper nowadays artists - day 204: Max Ginsburg (USA)

Max Ginsburg (USA, 1931)

The bottom line with Ginsburg is he’s a phenomenal painter from life. You can just tell his street scenes are well observed. He’s obviously consciously emulating the Old Masters and art of the past. Plus he did proper painting at a time when it was at its peak on unfashionableness - all commendable stuff. Some of his politics is a bit corny, a bit earnest and a bit too graphic for me, but he’s definitely sincere.

James Gurney makes an interesting juxtaposition of one of his paintings with a 19th century work here.
