Proper nowadays artists - day 114: James Gurney (USA)
James Gurney (USA, 1958)
Possibly best known primarily as an educator with his excellent books such as Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter, but he’s a brilliant artist in his own right.
He does imaginative, expansive and densely packed pictures of wonderful and fantastic worlds. Or in his own words he “makes the impossible look inevitable”. They’re the kind of pictures you wanted to do as a kid before you went to art college and got convinced to stand on a power box in the street with an umbrella sellotaped to your head instead.
He has a great blog too that you all should follow.
