Proper nowadays artists - day 115: Daniel Sprick (USA)
Daniel Sprick (USA, b. 1953)
Hugely successful and highly distinctive painter of nudes, portraits and still-lifes with his trademark sulfurous yellow luminous backgrounds. On contemporary figurative art Sprick says “representational artwork…is being taken seriously little by little”. He’s speaking of America of course. We’re still besotted with what’s trendy here unfortunately. Of that preoccupation with novelty he says “In fact lot of original ideas that we see it could be that they’re original because nobody else did it because it wasn’t such a good idea.” Indeed.
